Blaze of Sorrow - Fulgida Reminiscenza (2014)

Blaze of Sorrow from Italy return in 2014 with a short EP titled, Fulgida Reminiscenza. Mostly eschewing from their more atmospheric and depressive black metal style, Fulgida Reminscenza is roughly 34 minutes of acoustic and neo classical styled music. The title track is a lovely acoustic guitar piece with something of a post rock underlining to it, while Transcendenza is piano based for most its duration, but around the five minute mark the more custom Blaze of Sorrow metal sound shines through and continues onward's for nearly ten minutes. La Danza Dell'Anima is probably my favorite song on the album as its another wonderful acoustic piece ripe with melancholy and a sense of longing behind it, whereas, Acqua is a bit more upbeat and again post-ish in its overall delivery. The final song turns out to be a Death in June cover, namely, But, What Ends When the Symbols Shatter? Considering its one of my favorite DiJ songs, I'd be hard pressed to say its better than the original, but as a mostly straight forward cover song its quite fantastic and could in all likeliness turn someone onto the amazing tunes of DiJ, too.

All in all, I found this short EP to be quite a success. It shows that Blaze of Sorrow is by no means a band to work under one specific genre style and that they are more than willing to experiment and expand their sound. Its my hope that the bands next full-length will be similar to the immensely enjoyable, Echi, but with everything that Fulgida Reminiscenza has to offer included.
